However the ancient browser won't connect to this Forum as it doesn't appear to support the HTTPS protocols in use here. I too was a bit surprised with it runing as root (and no /home, which is what HDA3 was intended for, I've set it up as default download & storage anyway) but this shouldn't be an issue with its intended use.Ĭonnected to the network with no problems whatsoever and can access the server shares. Used a Frugal install and initially it didn't give me a choice where to put the save2fs stuff (insisted on HDA1) so again DSL came to the rescue it all fits nicely in the half-gig HDA2 and there's a decent sized data partition (HDA3) & half-gig Swap (HDA4). I used a combination of Damn Small Linux (the first Linux OS I tried on this machine and the first time I'd ever booted DSL) and Puppy to set up the partitions once I'd set up /swap Puppy refused to let go of it (even with the live CD session) and I wanted to tweak the partitions again. ![]() I was about to start a thread on Puppy / ancient hardware and then spotted this one, so thought it better to revive it as not that old (hope that's OK!) - I've just installed Puppy 2.17.1 alongside Win98SE on an old Dell OptiPlex Pentium II 350MHz PC with 64MB of RAM & 6GB HDD and it actually works quite well considering the dinosaur-era specs!
